You would be wrong if you thought that the Spring/Summer 2021 collections – and flock of subsequent trends – would be dull. Designers like Valentino and Louis Vuitton, amongst others, are to thank for making this season look a little brighter for us all (and the pastels).

Out of the four fashion capitals, London and New York took the digital route and introduced CDFA made NYFW dedicated Runway360 and LFW, specifically for London Fashion Week. Whereas Paris and Milan hosted a mixture of exhibitions, they scaled back venues and kept things ‘Covid-secure’.

Designers thought outside of the box this season, and switched things up in terms of their presentations. Many chose to use virtual reality, film and even puppets.

1) Pretty in Pastels

We were tickled – pastel - pink to see a pop of colour back into our lockdown looks. Isabel Marant paired ruched candy pink dresses with mulberry coloured cowboy boots, while at Proenza Schouler, mint green co-ords added a touch of whimsy to our loungewear.

2) Mysterious Monochromes

On the other end of the colour spectrum, designers proved that black – and white – were back! At Dolce & Gabbana, chequerboard mini dresses resembled both past decades and collections. Whilst Chanel made us reminisce about going to work with their ‘classic’ suit silhouette.

3) Cape Diem

All eyes were on Moschino for this Spring with their elaborate, one-of-a-kind, puppet show, where they showed us what we had been missing – capes. Whilst not many of us will have the chance to play dress up, one can certainly dream.

4) Don't Forget to Floss

Midriff ‘flossing’ – as it resembles dental floss – was definitely the boldest trend to grace the runway this season. Seen on crop tops, skirts and dresses, Acne Studios, Jacquemus and Victoria Beckham are to thank for this new favourite.

5) Bare it All Bralette

A look to reach for this Spring, bralettes gave us a little optimism for the (hopefully) upcoming warm weather. Styled with suits, shorts and sparkles (hello Versace!), this diverse piece is undeniably a staple trend for SS21.

6) Corset Craze

It’s the end of hoodies until the foreseeable future – why? Because we’re crazy for corsets! Whilst Alexander McQueen and Balmain and dressed them up with dresses and sculpted cycling shorts, Alberta Ferretti kept things casual with wide leg trousers and sandals.

7) Net Worth

Forget tights - fishnet has a new meaning. This trend is all about layering, Fendi did this with a lattice jacket whilst Acne Studios chose to use a casual net slip to keep things easy and breezy this Spring.
